Lotus Self-Opening Breathing Exercise

The “Lotus Self-Opening Breathing Exercise” is a mindful meditation practice that combines breath observation with gentle body movements. This exercise offers numerous benefits for both physical and mental health, improving concentration, reducing stress and anxiety, and bringing a sense of peace.

Preparation:

  • Find a quiet and comfortable space where you won’t be disturbed.
  • Stand barefoot with your feet shoulder-width apart.
  • Face south (to align your body with the Earth’s magnetic field).
  • Place your hands together in a meditative gesture (Samadhi Mudra) in front of your abdomen.
  • Close your eyes slightly and breathe gently.

Practice:

Starting the Exercise:

  • Place your hands together in front of your chest.
  • Begin to inhale deeply through your nose.
  • Slowly raise your hands upward in sync with your breath.
  • When your hands reach above your head, finish inhaling and start exhaling gently through your mouth.
  • Open your hands to the sides and lower them slowly, matching the pace of your breath.
  • Return your hands to the starting position in front of your abdomen.
  • Focus your mind on your breath throughout the exercise.

Completing a Breath Cycle:

  • One complete breath cycle includes one inhalation and one exhalation.
  • Repeat the movements 18 times.
  • If you lose count or get distracted, start again from one.

Notes:

  • Keep your body relaxed and comfortable throughout the practice.
  • Concentrate your mind on your breath.
  • Breathe deeply and steadily.
  • If you feel any discomfort, stop and adjust your breathing as needed.
  • This exercise can be done at any time of day, but it is best practiced in the morning or evening.
  • You can combine this exercise with other meditation practices to enhance its benefits.
