Continuing with the article on “Lotus Self-Opening Breathing Exercise”, I will introduce another breathing exercise to you.

This is a simple breathing exercise that we often use during martial arts training. After performing a series of martial arts movements, we practice this exercise to restore our breathing and regain balance for continued training. You can perform this exercise anytime you feel tired or your breath is uneven. Simply perform 6-10 cycles of inhalation and exhalation to feel your body regain balance.

Preparation Steps

  1. Find a quiet, well-ventilated space. This allows you to focus and relax your body.
  2. Stand barefoot with your feet shoulder-width apart. This posture helps you feel a clear connection to the ground.
  3. Face southward. According to martial arts principles, facing southward helps align your body with the Earth’s magnetic field.
  4. Relax your body. A natural, comfortable posture is essential.

  1. Raise your arms overhead, bringing your fingertips together like a lotus bud. Simultaneously, rise onto the balls of your feet.
  2. Inhale deeply through your nose. Focus on the incoming airflow, feeling the energy spreading throughout your body.
  3. When your hands reach the top of your head, you have completed one inhalation.
  4. Relax your palms, gently lower them in front of your body, and lower your heels. Exhale slowly through your mouth.
  5. Continue lowering your arms down your body, bring your fingertips together, and extend them backward behind your back. Rise onto the balls of your feet.
  6. When your hands reach the back of your body, you have completed one exhalation cycle. This completes one cycle of inhalation and exhalation.
  7. Repeat steps 1-6 for 6-10 cycles to complete the exercise.

While it may seem like a simple exercise, it is actually a fundamental qigong practice in martial arts. Regular daily practice can help you regulate your body’s qi (vital energy). This exercise takes less than 3 minutes but can effectively restore energy and improve overall health over time.

We hope this sharing will help people find moments of relaxation and peace in their daily lives. Take a few minutes each day for this exercise to experience the positive changes from within your body.
